HOW TO TALK TO ANYONE

Here are 7 Simple techniques to level up your communication game

  1. The Flooding smile- Don’t flash an immediate smile when you greet someone. Instead, look at the other person’s face for a second. Pause, soak in their persona. Then let a big, warm, responsive smile flood over your face and overflow into your eyes.

  2. Limit the Fidget-Whenever your conversation really counts, let your nose itch, your ear tingle, or your foot prickle. Do not fidget, twitch, wiggle, or scratch.

  3. Han’s Horse Sense- Express yourself, but keep a keen eye on how your listener is reacting to what you're saying. Then plan your moves accordingly.

  4. Be a word detective- When talking with anyone, keep your ears open and, like a good detective, listen for clues. Be on the lookout for any unusual references: any anomaly, place, time, or person. Ask about it, because it's the clue they would really enjoy talking.

  5. Potent imaging- Evoke your listener's interests or lifestyle and weave images around it. To give your points more power and punch. use analogies from your listener's world. Potent imaging also tells your listeners you think like them and hints you share their interests.

  6. Boomeranging- Just as a boomerang flies right back to the thrower, let compliments boomerang right back to the giver. When someone tosses a compliment your way, let the good feeling soar back to the tosser. Don't just say 'Thanks'. Let them know of your gratitude.

  7. Make a mood match- Before opening your mouth, take a 'voice sample' of your listener to detect his or her state of mind. If you ever want to bring people around to your thoughts, you must match their mood and voice tone. if only for a moment.

Actionable Advice:

Here are 3 Actions you can start taking from these insights:

  1. Always Smile: It's important to remember to smile often. Not only does it improve your mood, but it can also make those around you feel happier too. So, whether you're feeling down or just going about your day, make a conscious effort to smile more. It may seem small, but it can make a big difference.

  2. Learn about Body language: Learning about body language can be a valuable tool in communication. It can help you understand how others are feeling or what they may be thinking, even if they aren't saying it out loud. To start, consider observing people's facial expressions, hand gestures, and posture in different situations. You can also read books or articles on the topic or even take a course to dive deeper into the subject. Practice paying attention to body language in your everyday interactions and see how it can improve your communication skills.

  3. Be Interesting and Be Interested: One way to be more interested in others is to actively listen to what they have to say. Try to avoid interrupting or thinking ahead, about what you want to say next. Instead, focus on fully understanding the other person's thoughts and feelings. Ask questions to clarify and show genuine curiosity about their perspective. Additionally, practice empathy by putting yourself in their shoes and trying to understand their experiences and emotions. Finally, remember to be present at the moment and give the other person your full attention.

⚡️ Reading Tip

Diversify your Reading List

One reading tip I would suggest is to diversify your reading list. Don't limit yourself to only one genre or type of book. Instead, challenge yourself to explore different genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, memoir, biography, science fiction, and fantasy.

Reading books from different genres will expose you to new ideas, perspectives, and writing styles, which can broaden your horizons and help you become a more well-rounded reader. It can also help prevent boredom and keep your reading experience fresh and exciting.
